Our goal: create a specially adapted space

I have seen with my own eyes how transforming our approach to helping people with dementia can help them trust life and their caregivers and this trust eliminates or shifts what are considered to be behaviors that are common to people with dementia.

If we were to prepare our homes for the people who live with dementia in a way that takes into consideration the strengths and mental abilities that are still at the person's disposition, and if we allowed him to live according to his own rhythms and preferences, we will have made a great step forward towards the solution to the problem of living with dementia, because we will have given this person his own specially adapted environment.

Reading is often still possible

But the font size is unreadable if the person's vision has declined, which is very very common.

Adapting the reading materials to have a 100 font size may give the person with dementia back something that they had lost due to the limitation of the world outside of them and not because of something inside.

Adaptation is the key word, we adapt the environment and the things they use to them, to their needs, and this gives back the possibility to do things that maybe they loved to do but were unable to due to these external limitations.
